A third game in the BioShock series was announced on June 5, 2008 by Take-Two Interactive.

Chairman Strauss Zelnick stated the release of the game will likely coincide with the BioShock movie. Zelnick has previously stated BioShock is "a very important franchise" for Take-Two and "roughly an every-three-year [release] schedule would be optimal" for new installments. Therefore, a projected release date for the game (and film) could be set for roughly the 4th quarter of 2012.
