Security Bots

From Bioshock - Wiki on Neoseeker

Jump to: navigation, search

The powers at be - namely Ryan and Fontaine - have installed an elaborate security system that twines throughout Rapture. It is a multi-layered fabric of Security Cameras, Turrets and Security Bots that are programmed to detect and kill intruders much like yourself on sight. Luckily, for you, all of which can be hacked and made to work in your favor.

Note: All of the security related enemies (cameras, security bots, and turrets) can be researched and SHOULD be researched even if you don't care for the bonuses against them, since you will receive other potential bonus plasmids and tonics.

[edit] Security Cameras

Security Cameras are more commonly found mounted near doorways, or along a wall near a safe or other high-value targets. They pan back and forth over an area emitting a red ray of light that signifies their presence. It takes several seconds for a Security Camera to zoom in and target an intruder, then the security alarm will be sounded to alert Security Bots and others of your presence. Once the alarm has been sounded you can either wait until the countdown timer reaches zero, at which point the endless stream of Security Bots will cease, or look for an alarm shutdown switch nearby to end it immediately. Security Cameras are much more useful when hacked, as they alert Security Bots of any Splicer whom trips their sensors. A Security Camera's ray of vision will be emitted in a green tone when under your control.

Research Bonuses:

  • Level 1 - Increased Damage +
  • Level 2 - You find twice the Film on destroyed Security Cameras.
  • Level 3 - Increased Damage ++
  • Level 4 - Flow speed reduced when hacking any Security Camera.
  • Level 5 - Increased Damage +++

[edit] Security Bots

Security Bots are only active when a security alarm has been sounded, otherwise they sit idle on the floor or in cabinets where they can be easily accessed and hacked. Armed with two machine guns, a Security Bot with hover around the room attacking whoever tripped the alarm. In flight they are susceptible to Electro Bolt shocks, at which time they will temporarily fall to the floor and be rendered hackable. When hacked and under your control, they will hover around you and attack anything deemed hostile or threatening. You may have up to two Security Bots protecting you at any given time.

Research Bonuses:

  • Level 1 - Increased Damage +
  • Level 2 - Security Expert 2 Engineering Tonic
  • Level 3 - Increased Damage ++
  • Level 4 - Hacking Security Bots automatically succeeds.
  • Level 5 - Increased Damage +++

[edit] Turrets

Turrets have their own intruder detection capability and will open fire as soon as one is detected. Most turrets are equipped with a high caliber machine gun, but some do come equipped with rocket propelled grenades or a flame jet. The fact that they are stationary makes them fairly easy to avoid if you keep your eyes and ears open, even when placed around jaunty corners.

Research Bonuses:

  • Level 1 - Increased Damage +
  • Level 2 - You find twice the ammunition on destroyed Turrets.
  • Level 3 - Increased Damage ++
  • Level 4 - Hacking Turrets automatically succeeds.
  • Level 5 - Increased Damage +++
